Traffic might not grow even after all this investment
The software stack will be up-to-date
It is failing because of lack of effort and investment
Exactly what I am trying to say - why invest in a failing product?
Anyway traffic is not exactly growing
Will require extra time and effort for transition
It will improve performance
Its just a one time thing
Not necessary if the timing is right
First month of transition will require double payment
It will bring costs down per month
It will benefit the webapp
Even after changing the server, traffic and revenues might stay the same or even fall further. Hence it is a risk
Currently because the software stack is old, we cant do further development. Upgrading the server will allow further development
The webapp is going down because not enough time and effort and money is being put into it. It has been on autopilot for many years and it is still doing well in spite of it. The domain has a good reputation and Google has a good ranking for it in its search results.
It deserves a fresh shot in the arm.
If traffic is falling and so are revenues then what is the rationale for putting in money for a new server?
Even now the traffic is not really growing. The Alexa ranking has been falling over the months, so you cant use that as argument against the new server
After purchasing the server, we will have to put in time and effort to move the app and also the data to the new server. That will take time out of other activities which are revenue generating.
Processing of audio files will be faster since the old CPU is at least 7 years behind the latest technology.
We just to do it once, if at all. The long term liability comes down after that
The billing cycle is around the end of the month. If we pay the current bill and then immediately pay for the new server and do the transition within a week, then chances are that we wont have to pay for the old server anymore if notify the vendor at least 2 weeks before billing date.
The month that we pay for the new server, we will have to pay for the old server also. That is double payment which can be unaffordable.
The monthly subscription amount will go down from $122 to less than $100
Getting a new server will benefit the web app in terms of performance and speed and the latest security patches.
