Medieval Indian mathematicians were far ahead of peers elsewhere in Asia or the West.

As per https://www.storyofmathematics.com/indian_madhava.html, mathematician Madhava who lived in what is present-day Kerala had propounded and documented many of the concepts of calculus that were "discovered" by Newton and others in Europe after centuries.
